Professional Membership is for artists who are actively practicing professionally within one or more branches of the Visual Arts and is by selection only in recognition of their talent and dedication in this field. The Professional Members Selection Committee 2014 was comprised of 7 Professional SSA Members, including The President and Vice President.
Alan Bond SSA
Alan Bond makes large-scale architectural installations referencing classical public buildings that are characterised by the use of recycled materials and lighting effects. He also makes large-scale perspective drawings of raw architectural environments.
‘My main practice involves making large scale, usually architecturally themed, installations that provide spaces for subtle audience participation. I also make large drawings of architectural spaces that imperceptibly stretch the rules of perspective in order to provide more information about the character, construction and my personal sense of the space described. My smaller work is gradually being encapsulated in artists books. The subject of my work includes ideas about disintegration and reformation, references to classical architecture and astronomy, connections with nature and my regional and family history.’
David Faithfull SSA
David Faithfull is an artist, printmaker and curator. He lectures at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and publishes Artists Book, Prints and Multiples under the Semper Fidelis imprint.
Fundamental to David’s work is his intrinsic relationship to the landscape. Through adopting a palindromic form of visual dichotomy, he subjects the geological and historical palimpsest, of the physical landscape, to creative enquiry. These investigations have included extensive studies on the Scottish Hebrides, particularly on Mull and Jura; and the ‘Jettison’ series of prints, multiples and Artists Books; documenting the crash of a Tornado jet near Torness nuclear power Station, in south-east Scotland.
