The Gallery Book Lounge

Sunday 27th January 2pm. RSA Building: The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway.

John Bellany

A new, monthly book group for lovers of art and reading. Each month you’ll read a book connected to one of our exhibitions and the group will meet to discuss it over coffee, after looking at the exhibition together. Led by Katharine Aarrestad.

This month’s book is The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. The classic Hemingway tale of an old fisherman’s lonesome and exhausting struggle to catch a huge Marlin; a metaphor for the age-old struggle with life, and a theme very close to the heart and work of Scottish artist John Bellany. Bellany grew up in the fishing community of Port Seaton and made a series of etchings and paintings inspired by this tale casting himself as the fisherman.
Ticket price includes entry to John Bellany: A Passion for Life, a chaired discussion of the book and a coffee or tea in the Scottish Restaurant. Books not supplied but available from the NGS Shop. Please read the book before the session.
Tickets must be purchased in advance from the information desk or by calling 0131 624 6560
