David Baker and Shona Grant – Common Ground

David Baker currently has an Arts Council funded exhibition called Common Ground in the Southampton City Art Gallery. For the past four years, his Common Ground photographic project has examined the Common and the old cemetery to artistically interpret a landscape that has been shaped by human activity through the management of this shared space.

Common Ground explores the intersections between the man-made and the managed natural resources – from the open and wooded spaces to the paths that link the various Common elements. These paths are the key to the Common, it’s frame, linking the open spaces, the water, the woodland spaces and the old cemetery.

The exhibition opened on 2 December 2017 and runs until 7 April. It’s part of the Recording the Region series.

Shona Grant was also commissioned to make an artists’ book.
